The Keys Behind The Golf Backspin
This is a very difficult action to apply to a shot and that’s without thinking about controlling it, you wouldn’t be reading over this article if it was that easy would you.
It may be worth knowing that this shot is used very scarcely and there aren’t many situations that demand it.
The approach shot would be the easiest to apply the backspin to in my opinion, so if you’re a beginner start off here. Once you learn how to stop the ball after one bounce on the green it is an absolutely great feeling. As you know, this shot is very hard to master. But, on a large majority of situations it’s the most competent option.
I am only going to go through the need to know areas of this shot, as a whole week of solid writing wouldn’t even cover all the necessary info on this shot. It would be very impressive to do it in one of your recreational games, but it would also be very difficult as well.
To add to the difficulty of this shot, only certain conditions allow this shot to be attempted. If these elements are not in place, you will not be able to apply backspin to your shot.
- The equipment and the course have to be dry and free from particles.
- The condition of the grass on the green has to be really good.
- You have to have a clean shot on the ball ie. You have to be on the fairway to attempt it.
Now, it is worth repeating that all the above elements have to be in place before you can attempt this kind of shot. This gives you a good feeling of why this is such a hard shot to master, and it’s why golf tutors don’t explain it to beginner golfers. It’s not only really difficult to accomplish, it also takes away the simplicity away from learning how to play golf.
I was mulling over a good explanation of the action involved in creating the backspin, and I came up with the theory that it is similar to that of getting a backspin on a cue ball in pool.
Many pool players are good at golf, so it may be worth taking it up to practise your backspin. It helped me in understanding what’s involved in creating the backspin and it also helped me to develop a good aim and steady hands.
In pool the player tends to hit down and through the ball and after chalking through the cue tip to create dry conditions.
The same techniques are also needed to create a backspin in golf. What you should be trying to do is just nip the ball between the club face and the fairway. Your approach to the ball on your swing should be downwards and there should be a fair amount of speed in your downswing. A good clean connection with the ball on it’s bottom portion is essential in creating maximum backspin. With all these factors involved in a backspin shot it is no wonder why it’s so hard for golf beginners to accomplish, let alone with any accuracy at all.
Also, a good tip is to get a new golf ball with a high spin and a soft feel, and a new club with a good grip on the club face. As the golf ball compresses onto the grooves on the clubface, the backspin is created so you can play better golf.
